The award ceremony was held on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Ganga Hospital Auditorium, Coimbatore. Approximately 70 participants attended the event
The two awardees for this Ganga-Zeiss Fellowship program were Dr. Yogesh Bhatt, Baroda and Dr. Anil Bhat, Manipal.
Dr. J. Shanmuganathan, Founder and Chairman of Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore gave the Welcome Address to the august audience.
This was followed by a talk by Dr. S. Raja Sabapathy, Head, Dept. of Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery about the Fellowship. He expressed great satisfaction at the fellowship award and emphasized the fact awareness of Reconstructive Microsurgery amongst general public has to increased Also, creation of this centre will definitely popularize Reconstructive Microsurgery in India. Ganga Hospital received applications for this fellowship from candidates as far away as Turkey, Palestine and Germany. In this fellowship, the candidates are not only given the skills and the benefit of teamwork but also instill the values which institutions like Ganga Hospital and Carl Zeiss will cherish. He was confident that the candidates would become leaders of men in their region and ensure the march of this specialty forward.
Dr. Ramkumar Raghupathy, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College gave the Presidential Address and lauded the activities undertaken by Ganga Hospital.
This was followed by the distribution of the Fellowship to the two awardees from the hands of the Chief Guest, Dr. K.Sridhar, Head, Dept. of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Apollo Hospital, Chennai.
Dr. Yogesh Bhatt and Dr. Anil Bhat spoke about their experiences during their Fellowship at Ganga Hospital.
Mr. Ven Raman made a presentation on Carl Zeiss in India and the various Carl Zeiss Educational Initiatives not only in the field of Reconstructive Microscurgery but also in disciplines like Glaucoma, Retina and General Ophthalmology.
Dr. K.Sridhar, Head, Dept. of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Apollo Hospital, Chennai addressed the gathering with a talk on “Plastic Surgery – A Vision for the Future”.
Dr. S. Rajashekaran, Head, Department of Orthopedics and Spine Surgery, Ganga Hospital provided the Vote of Thanks.
