Carl Zeiss and Samsung Bring Perfect Images to TV Screens Information
New Generation of Rear Projection TV on the Market since April

Carl Zeiss (Germany) and SAMSUNG Electronics (South KOrea) have joined forces to develop and manufacture optical modules for a new generation of rear projection TV (microdisplay TV). The first products from this joing venture are now being introduced to the market. The companies began their partnership in the field of microdisplay TV based on DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology in August 2003.

The new, rear projection TV of the HLP 63P series are the first examples of a new generation of high-resolution, large-screen (46, 50 or 56") digital TV from Samsung. Their optical modules are developed and manufactured by Carl Zeiss. The image-generating microdisplay is a DLP microchip from US chip manufacturer Texas Instruments. This means that the new HLP series from Samsung offers leading-edge technology resulting from a partnership of manufacturers which rank among the global market leaders in their industries: Samsung in TV technology, Texas Instruments in microdisplay technology and Carl Zeiss in optical technology.

Carl Zeiss is well positioned in the growth market of microdisplay TV as a supplier of high-performance optical modules. In the USA, in particular, there is great demand for high-resolution, large-screen televisions – like the HLP models from Samsung.

Prototypes of this microdisplay TV generation were presented by Samsung in March 2004 at CeBIT , the world's leading computer and technology fair in Hannover, Germany. The first series-produced units have been on the US market since April. The market launch in Europe is scheduled for late 2004.
